Nearsightedness
(myopia) occurs when the curvature of the cornea is too steep and the focus of light rays that enter the eye fall short of the retina. The result is a blurry view of distant objects.
Astigmatism
Astigmatism can exist alone or in combination with nearsightedness or farsightedness. With this condition your eye is "oval-shaped" like a football instead of round causing distortion when the eye tries to focus.
Farsightedness
Farsightedness (hyperopia) occurs when an eye is too short for the cornea's curvature. Light rays entering the eye focus behind the retina, and as a result a blurred image is produced.
Presbyopia
Presbyopia is part of the natural aging process. Everyone experiences the effects of presbyopia, typically starting between the ages of 40-50. It develops as the lens of the eye loses some of its flexibility, making it difficult to focus up close. Mild myopia counteracts presbyopia. That is why if you are slightly myopic, you can remove your glasses and are still able to read.
Cataracts
More than 50% of people over the age of 60 - and a
large percentage of those younger - have vision that
is impaired by cataracts. Cataracts are so common that
everyone will eventually develop a cataract if they
live long enough. Despite recent breakthroughs in technology
and surgical techniques, cataracts continue to be one
of the leading causes of blindness worldwide. Replacement lenses such as the Tecnis Multifocal lens and the ReSTOR IOL lens can correct poor vision after cataract surgery.
Monovision LASIK is an option that can be created for patients in their forties and older. Some people already wear Monovision contact lenses, and that same situation can be duplicated with LASIK. One eye is corrected to see clearly at distance, and the other eye is corrected for reading. This option can be discussed in detail during your LASIK evaluation. Myopia, Hyperopia, Astigmatism and Presbyopia, are all optical disorders that can be corrected with the services we provide
LASIK Eye Surgery may be a good option if you are nearsighted, farsighted or have astigmatism. Dr. Lasonde and our staff are pleased to offer those thinking about LASIK in New Hampshire a Free Evaluation by Calling Us at 1-877-474-2020.
