What is LASIK?
LASIK stands for Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis which literally translates to "shaping the cornea from within using laser." The VISX laser sculpts the cornea with cool, ultraviolet light. In the case of nearsighted individuals, the reshaping transforms a cornea which is too steep into one that is flatter allowing more natural vision. The procedure takes about 7 minutes per eye. Our patients spend a total of 1 ½ hours at our Laser Center on the day of their procedure.

Am I A Candidate?
With the advancement in technology and safety, almost everyone who seeks Laser Vision Correction is a candidate. A person needs to be over 21 years of age and their glasses or contact lens prescription needs to be stable for the past year. A common misconception is that people with ASTIGMATISM are not candidates. In fact, the VISX laser was designed specifically to treat astigmatism.
